Mystery Of The Mayan Civilization

Deep within the jungles of Mexico and Guatemala and extending into the limestone shelf of the Yucatan peninsula lie the mysterious temples and Mayan pyramids. While Europe was still in the midst of the Dark Ages, these amazing people had mapped the heavens, evolved the only true writing system native to the Americas and were masters of mathematics. They invented the calendars we use today. Without metal tools, beasts of burden or even the wheel they were able to construct vast cities across a huge jungle landscape with an amazing degree of architectural perfection and variety. Their legacy in stone, which has survived in a spectacular fashion at places such as Palenque, Tikal, Tulum, Chichen Itza, Copan and Uxmal, lives on as do the seven million descendants of the classic Maya civilization.

The Maya are probably the best-known of the classical civilizations of Mesoamerica. The civilization that survived for more than 1000 years. The Maya were noted as well for elaborate and highly decorated ceremonial architecture, including temple-pyramids, palaces and observatories, all built without metal tools.

The Maya were quite accomplished astronomers. Mayans believed the universe was divided into thirteen layers, each with its own god. The Milky Way itself was much venerated by the Maya. They called it the World Tree, which was represented by a tall and majestic flowering tree, the Ceiba. The Mayan Calendar is something profoundly different than just a system to mark off the passage of time. The Mayan Calendar is above all a prophetic calendar that may help us understand the past and foresee the future. It is a calendar of the Ages that describes how the progression of Heavens and Underworlds condition the human consciousness and thus the frames for our thoughts and actions within a given Age.

K'inich Janaab' Pakal
Pakal ascended the throne at age 12 on July 29, 615, and lived to the age of 80. The name pakal means "shield" in the Maya language. He was actually the most powerful ruler of the civilization. On his death, he was buried at Palanque. He was a mysterious Mayan leader. He is said to have seen in two places at the same time, knew magic tricks. He was a giant about 7-8 ft. The Mayan's considered him as the god and built a huge pyramid over his burial. The carving in the burial scene was the most mysterious one. The picture is shown below.

This is a sample of classic Mayan art. This shows the king descending into the underworld. But when we look closer, you see a man, he is sitting in a capsule like thing. Now look closer..
1. he has a kind of oxygen supply in his nose,
2. his upper hand manipulating some controls,
3. lower hand turning something, like an accelerator,
4. His legs on some kind of a pedal,
5. Just behind him is a kind of engine,
6. Outside the capsule is a fire exhaust.
Can we connect these things with something? Yes, The modern day aeroplane...
There are mush more..may be next time..
